When faced with an accusation of criminal behaviour, in may be difficult to know what to do. A Toronto man recently faced that dilemma after three girls accused him of inappropriate activity. He now faces sexual assaultcharges.

The alleged incidents occurred on Jan. 19 near Keele Street and Eglinton Avenue. A 17-year-old girl reported that at around 4:50 p.m. a man approached her on the street and attempted to engage her in conversation. She apparently claims that he then sexually assaulted her. Shortly thereafter, a pair of 16-year-old girls were allegedly approached by the same person, who is said to have then sexually assaulted both girls following an attempt to speak with them. After the alleged incidents took place, the suspect walked away from the vicinity.

Based on the girls’ description of the man, Toronto Police released images of the suspected perpetrator taken from a security camera to social media. A 26-year-old man turned himself in to police on Jan. 24. He was subsequently charged with three counts of sexual assault.

Given the seriousness of the accusations, and the circulation of his picture through a social media outlet, turning himself in was the best course of action. Another wise course of action for anyone being sought for, or charged with an alleged sexual assault, might be to get in contact with a criminal defence lawyer. A lawyer who knows the courtrooms of Toronto and has experience defending against charges like these may be able to bring about a favourable conclusion to any legal proceedings.
