Two men are facing serious charges following a double shooting outside a prominent downtown nightclub. Toronto police arrested two men in connection with a homicide investigation into the shooting early in the morning of Oct. 1. It is not clear at this time whether the men are in police custody or were released under bail.
Few details about the actual shooting are available from the current report, but it has been confirmed that it took place outside a prominent Toronto nightclub around 3:10 a.m. on Oct. 1. The two victims were both male, aged 25 and 26 respectively. One was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews, and the other was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries some time later and was also pronounced dead.
Police say they executed search warrants of residences in North York, which led them to arrest a 23-year-old Toronto man and a 24-year-old man from Edmonton. Both men have been charged with second-degree murder in the 44th and 45th homicides of the year in Toronto. Police have not released any further information at this time.
Homicide charges are very serious, as they carry with them considerable jail sentences. This is why prosecutors carry the burden of proof, to prove beyond reasonable doubt the guilt of both accused men.
