Seven people are facing charges after a large drug bust in Belleville. The seven defendants, who all reside in Belleville, face drug charges that include the production of a controlled substance, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession for the purpose of trafficking and careless storage of ammunition.

Belleville police raided three houses in the east end of Belleville. They seized a variety of weapons, drugs and cash. The raid consisted of 29 drug unit officers and an emergency response team. The group had warrants for three homes that were on Pine Street and Russel Street. The raid of the three houses occurred at the same time. Police indicated that they were concerned about the safety of the community. They also indicated that community members provided them with information that allowed the raid to be possible.

According to police, they found 157 marijuana plants. This seizure has a street value of approximately $157,000. The Belleville Deputy Chief of Police said that they also seized cocaine and a variety of weapons, including a stun-gun, baton, handgun, semi-automatic rifle, ammunition and brass knuckles. The value of the items seized was approximately $200,000. Police say that the raid made a big dent in the local drug trade with the value of the products seized and the evidence that they have captured.

The seven Belleville defendants are all between the age of 25 and 34. When defendants are arrested with drugs in their possession, they may face more substantial charges, such as the production of drugs, distribution of drugs or drug trafficking. An Ontario criminal defence lawyer may be able to help his or her client receive a plea agreement that eliminates or decreases jail time.
