The allegation of a sexual crime may have lifelong consequences for the accused. Being convicted of sexual assault may mean facing harsh penalties, including a long incarceration. A Toronto man find himself in just such a situation after being arrested for allegedly committing multiple sex crimes.
The 30-year-old man is accused of assaulting three women in Toronto and a fourth woman in another city during the months of May and June. The man was apparently identified by a video police released that was taken from neighbourhood surveillance cameras. The footage shows a man who police believe to be the man in custody assaulting one of the women as she was unlocking her front door. The video also shows a vehicle thought to be the suspect’s car. This was the second attack the man is accused of committing.
Police report that the subsequent assaults included women being grabbed from behind while walking along public roads or near their homes. The assailant would flee when the women screamed or fought back. Police say the public’s response to the video led to an arrest warrant, and the suspect was captured by Canadian Border Services as he was trying to leave the country.
This Toronto man is now facing four counts of sexual assault and one count of criminal harassment. None of these charges should be taken lightly.
