For a group of people to escape from a serious accident with only minor injuries is very fortunate, indeed. A woman driving a vehicle that rolled on its roof was not able to avoid prosecution, however. Police have charged her with impaired driving after an accident just outside Toronto.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 25 in Ajax. What caused the accident has not been determined, but the vehicle, a minivan, left the road and struck a hydro pole before rolling repeatedly. The van eventually came to rest on its roof.

The vehicle had three occupants, including the driver, all of whom were extricated from the wreck by firefighters. One of the two passengers suffered injuries, which were deemed non-life threatening, and was transported to a nearby hospital. The driver of the van, a 33-year-old woman, was charged by police with driving with a blood alcohol level over 80 mg, and impaired driving. She was released from custody and is due to appear in court.

Not every alleged impaired driving accident causes serious injuries or damage. Nevertheless, the law treats each case very seriously, and to be charged with a drunk driving offense can mean repercussions ranging from fines to imprisonment, depending on the severity and past convictions. Needless to say, anyone so charged will likely want to be defended when his or her day in court arrives. It may be worth considering seeking representation from a law firm with a proven record of success handling impaired driving court cases in the Toronto area.
